Micah Davis, a 25-year-old self-taught saxophonist, pianist, singer and producer here to give an old soul sound a fresh new take in today’s hip-hop music climate.
Masego posseses an ear and talent for blissful instrumentation. Masego describes his sound as “TrapHouseJazz.” “I wanted to lead the wave of future jazz, so I created TrapHouseJazz music,” he told Billboard…it’s ignorance meets elegance.”
Virginia native Masego has spent the past several years dismantling music criticism’s beloved “high art versus low art” argument through his unique brand of “trap house jazz.” In his world, the two genres, both deeply rooted in Southern black culture, get along with each other fairly well.
Masego, born Micah Davis to Jamaican parents, says of his Virginia upbringing that the musical isolation from the mainstream, left room for his creative imagination.
Hear his imaginative music live, he will be performing at Neumos on Thursday, November 15th.
